The SIG P320 Compact is Equipped with the SIG Romeo 1 Pro Red Dot

Jennifer Shepherd takes her professional dog training serious. She also puts the same dedication and energy into her work with the Red Dirt OSAR (Oklahoma Search and Rescue). The Red Dirt OSAR unit is 100% dedicated Lady Warriors. I had the honor of meeting with these Warriors at one of their many field training sessions. Pictures are contained in this article. If I was to get lost or injured hunting Bigfoot in the Winding Stairs Mountains, the Red Dirt Warriors is who I would want to come and find me.

No, I am not convinced Bigfoot is real. Could be, but being a Cop I need solid evidence such as a live or deceased Bigfoot.

Watch the video above to see how Jennifer did with her SIG P320 Compact and Romeo1 optics.

Jennifer’s OSAR trainers recommended to their trainees to equip themselves with survival gear including a sidearm. Jennifer attended fire arms training at the Oklahoma City Gun Club where she was introduced to several SIG firearms and the SIG Romeo1 optical sight. She fell in love with shooting P320 Compact 9mm.

For this reason, Jennifer chose for her duty weapon the SIG P320 Compact 9mm with Romeo1 Pro Reflex optical. A good choice for the job she is headed for. She explained her need for this firearm so I requested one from SIG. A short time later I received the 320C-9-B-RXP.

When Jennifer and I found some time, we could test the P320 Compact, I invited Pat to come along and participate as well. Our good friend Pat has helped me before as well as her husband Jim.

On a nice clear day when the wind was not too strong, Jennifer, Pat and I arrived at the OKC Gun Club. We set up a target and went over some basic safety rules. If you have heard the basic rules before, it is a good practice to go over them each and every time you are at the range or outdoors to shoot or hunt.

As I always do when I test a new semi-auto pistol, first thing I fire a mag of ammo through this firearm straight out of the box. So, in this case, I took the SIG P320 Compact out of the box it arrived in, and loaded up Hornady Critical Defense 9mm. In the 15 rounds I loaded, this SIG failed to properly chamber eight. The slide would strip the round from the magazine and load it into the chamber, but lacked ¼ inch of completing this function. I would simply take my offhand thumb and tap the back of the slide to finish loading the 9mm round. It was very easy to accomplished this task.

I then field stripped this SIG P320 Compact, and place lubricant on the four contact points of the frame. The P320 still had the complete loading of rounds. Frustrated, I am a huge SIG fan, I went to my truck tool box and acquired some automotive grease. I put a dab on each of the four-metal contact point on the frame and reassembled. The SIG P320 Compact never failed to load thereafter. Note: Subsequent testing of the SIG P320 – M17 with suppressor, had the same problems as this Compact SIG.

The very patient and cheerful Jennifer then took her SIG P320 Compact and consumed two hundred rounds of Hornady ammo including the excellent Critical Defense 9mm, with no problems. From 10 to 30 feet, with the Romio1 optic, Jennifer had some impressive 9mm groupings for a novice shooter.

Hornady, made in the USA, is some of the World’s best ammos. I have never, shooting several thousand rounds of their ammo of many calibers, had a single problem including their very deadly .22 mag rimfire Critical Defense. Rimfire ammo can present some problems, but not the Hornady rimfire.

In addition to the SIG firearm, Jennifer needed a duty rig so she chose one of my top two holster and gear companies DeSantis GunHide. I recommended the DeSantis Ballistic Nylon Duty belt with the Velcro “under-belt”, double clip pouch, and accessories. She was very impressed with the equipment and me guessing her belt sizes…small. I personally own DeSantis leather, and have for over 20 years. The equipment I used was several plain-clothes holsters, clip pouches and leather belts. The quality is beyond reproach. DeSantic GunHide is truly an excellent company.
