Last September of 2016, I posted an article entitled Five Best USA Made Handguns Under $500.

Within this article I reviewed the Kel-Tec PMR 30 .22 magnum thirty shot semi-auto single action pistol. Since then I have extensively tested this pistol for functionality, dependability and power. Here are my findings:

I have fired over 1,200 rounds of .22 magnum supplied by several manufactures. The bullet weight ran from Winchesters 30 gr. Supreme to the CCI Maxi-Mag 40 gr. JHP. Also test fired was the A22 (CCI) 35 gr. Game-Point and Hornady Critical Defense 45 gr. All rounds fired perfectly with no feeding problems and no miss-fires. During this testing period, I cleaned the PMR 30 one time.

The fastest round fired was the Winchester 30 gr. Supreme. This round came out whooping and spurring at 1,513 feet per second which is an average from five shots. The fastest of those five rounds was 1,555feet per second. The next fastest round was the CCI Maxi-Mag 40 gr. JHP which popped in at 1,351 feet per second. The CCI Maxi-Mag 40 gr. JHP is 10 grains heavier than the Winchester Supreme. So it would boil down to being hit by a 160 mph Corvette or a 130 mph Dodge Ram pickup. I believe the extra 10 grains would give a little more knock down power. The CCI Maxi-Mag 40 gr. has 162 fp. with the Winchester 30 gr. having 153 fp.

In my article for the magazine “Personal and Home Defense” entitled “A Lady Names Her Ultimate Home Defense Pistol” Dena and her husband met with me at the Wilshire Gun Range where she tested several pistols not unlike the ones in my article Five Best USA Made Handguns Under $500. After shooting all five different pistols she overwhelming chose the Kel-Tec PM 30. While Dena was shooting this light weight (14 ounces) pistol, I noticed other shooters in this indoor range stopped their firing to come over to see who was firing this hand-cannon. Yes the PMR 30 has a bad-ass muzzle blast which scares some and impresses all the rest. A big blast and large muzzle flash. This is why I state the PMR 30 is perfect for home defense for a woman. Low recoil, big muzzle flash and blast and if they miss the first 15 times and the idiot dirt-bag is still there, then they still have 15 more shots.

The article in Personal and Home Defense magazine will be coming out soon, but as of yet I have no publish date as this is up to the editor. Check out this great magazine for good solid ideas about survival on the street and at home.
