Sniper Elite 4 is a third person tactical shooting game based on WWII special operations by an individual OSS soldier who was loaned out to the SOS. Sniper Elite 4 is the forth version of Sniper Elite. There was Sniper Elite, Sniper Elite V2, Sniper Elite 3 and the present version Sniper Elite 4. This game was released in February of 2017 and currently can be bought on STEAM or at your favorite gaming store.
Sniper Elite 4 is set in 1943 Italy where SOE (Special Operations Executive) sniper Karl Fairburne is tasked to infiltrated and eliminate various high ranking Nazis Generals and scientists. Fairburne encounters German troop and elite German troops as well as Italian troops. He also interacts with Partisan resistance operators and some mafia types.
I like this game as I can play the character from a stand back view who has a 360 degree field of view. Even though I can see my character the field of view and peripheral vision are more realistic. When the character is standing or crouching I can look around him and if I see an enemy, I can right click my mouse to place the crosshair on this threat to take action. The character turns instantly and a shot can be fired. It is easy to bring your weapon to bear and fire with rapid reloading. If you fire your weapon to where it is empty, the game defaults to auto reload of the magazine.
In the beginning the character is equipped with a Springfield bolt action M1903A4 30.06 (7.62X63mm) with a Weaver Model 330 scope, a Thompson Machine Gun in .45acp and a British Welrod bolt action magazine fed pistol in .32acp. The Character also is equipped with a commando knife which is automatically used when coming up behind an enemy. As you progress in the game you can choose different types of weapons to start a mission. During the mission you can pick up other weapons found in various places or dropped by KIA enemy. When you pick up a German sniper rifle, you will drop your current rifle this holding true with the machine gun and pistol.
In addition to firearms, you are equipped with a med-kit, grenades, a rock….??…., various TNT, anti-tank mines, anti-personnel mines. As you progress you can find additional ammo for all of your firearms in buildings and supply areas. You can recover ammo and other equipment from the enemy you have killed. You can set the mines anywhere in the map and if an enemy or enemy tank triggers them you get the credit even if you are not present.
Sniper Elite 4 has graphics, realistic weapons, the slow motion video of your sniper bullet bashing through the enemy skull or body and large maps. You can run wild choosing your targets in the order in which you approach them. A normal coop mission of two players, can last up to 90 minutes to complete. So if you like to coop in games with 15 to 20 of play time…this is not your game.
I did randomly join a coop game wherein there was four players. This coop game was to defend a house from German troops. There was 12 levels to complete. On the normal level, we never achieved past four levels. I recommend you start as a single player on the easy mode to develop your understanding of all game aspects. I also recommend you don’t get into a big hurry while stomping through the map. Stealth, tactical planning and well timed and placed shots count. Search all structures for anything you can pick up.
A great game I bought on sale through STEAM. If you like combat type games wherein you slip around and snipe the enemy and at times stand toes to toes, nose to nose and trade machine gun dirt-nap pills, then Sniper Elite 4 is your game.
