TOPS C.U.T. 4.0 Combat Utility Tool Review

If you are looking for the perfect fix-blade knife you can carry every day in your brief case, on your belt or on your “Battle-Rattle”, then the TOPS C.U.T. 4.0 Combat Utility Tool is the right knife for you.

When I received my C.U.T. 4.0, hereafter referred to as CUT 4.0, I was immediately impressed. I could see this combat utility knife is much more than another “combat knife”. I could see this knife being carried in war and in peace. The CUT 4.0 is light, strong and just the right size to be easily an EDC knife. For you warriors and sheepdogs who work outside of the office and find the repeated need for a work blade, the CUT 4.0 is you knife. For those sheepdogs who are confined to office work, the CUT 4.0 would make a great addition to your desk drawer and or briefcase.

The CUT 4.0 I received has the camo finished blade. I love this finish and design on my CUT 4.0. Now I know this camo finish does not make the knife cut better but it sure makes it look cooler. As a warrior, I like to impress the antagonists who come before me. They will go to their maker with a smile on their face as they get a very brief flashing glimpse of this cool warrior blade at work.

In Kurdistan I grew to know and highly respect the Kurdish Peshmerga Mountain Fighters. Their warrior blood comes from their Germanic ancestors who accompanied Alexander the Great as paid mercenaries. Once Alexander settled on Babylon as his HQ, he closely placed his most fierce and loyal warriors to the north which is now Kurdistan. The Peshmerga is the military for Kurdistan. Each soldier carries a blade of their choice which they use in combat as a rite of passage.

I worked with the Peshmerga in Kurdistan, and others, learning their preferences for a combat blade. I am very confident any Kurdish Warrior would highly value the CUT 4.0. I know they would come to like the semi karambit design which facilitates a deep slashing strike. The Karambit traditionally has a large ring at the end of the handle. This ring, as with the CUT 4.0., facilitates the use of the blade and controls any slippage while cleaning your trophy chipmunk or in covert action.

I have reviewed hundreds of knives during my 15 years with Knives Illustrated. I normally will only review knives I find interesting. However, the TOPS C.U.T. 4.0 is now my primary knife when I trek in the Colorado Mountains or the wilderness areas of Oklahoma. I will be carrying the CUT 4.0 when I hunt a wild feral hog with a .357 cal. air rifle. This is how much I trust this knife.
